Support & FAQ
Welcome to the SoundByte (also known as GiphyByte) Support Center. Below you'll find answers to frequently asked questions and information on how to get the most out of our custom meme soundboard app.
Why does the app request microphone access?
SoundByte needs microphone permission solely to allow you to record your own custom soundbytes (like saying a catchphrase or recording a funny noise) to add to your custom meme gallery.
We only access the microphone when you tap the record button. The recordings are stored locally first, and uploaded to our secure servers only if you choose to save and upload the sound.
How do I share memes and sounds?
You can share memes in a few ways:
- Meme Gallery: Open the SoundByte app, browse the gallery, and tap the Share button. Select any messaging application on your device to send a playback link.
- iMessage Extension (iOS): Tap the GiphyByte icon inside iMessage to pick and send sounds with rich animation templates directly in your chats.
- Custom Keyboard: Enable the GiphyByte keyboard in iOS or Android settings to quickly paste and send sounds in other chat apps.
What file formats are supported for uploads?
SoundByte supports uploading standard audio formats (MP3, M4A, WAV), image formats (JPEG, PNG, GIF), and video formats (MP4, MOV). When you upload a video, our backend automatically extracts the audio track and creates a thumbnail image for you.
How do I delete my uploaded sounds?
Open the SoundByte app, go to your custom uploads section, find the item you wish to delete, and tap delete. This will permanently remove the files from our database servers (including GridFS storage).
